Under the new legislation, it is mandatory for professionals across various sectors to report cases of suspected child abuse. Failure to report cases involving serious harm to children and neglect can result in a fine of HK$50,000 and three months in prison. Dr. Leung’s sharing will inform us a proper practice under the new bill. The basic concept of dental forensics and child maltreatment from the perspective of a dental surgeon will be introduced in the talk. A guide on how a dental surgeon as a professional healthcare provider examines a child with suspected maltreatment will be outlined. Dr. Leung will also share some cases with us and discuss how to co-work with other professionals in the care of a child with suspected maltreatment as dental surgeons.
